Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at San Francisco State University (SFSU)

Lead Mentor & Student Support Specialist 

EOP at SFSU

In Faith's role as a Lead Mentor, she supported a group of first-year, first-generation scholars of color. Her focus was on helping them navigate higher education and fostering a stronger sense of belonging on campus. Acting as a liaison between students and various campus services and organizations, she ensured they could access critical resources, support, and opportunities. Additionally, she regularly checked in with her mentees on a weekly basis and collaborated with other mentors within the program to ensure that everyone received the assistance they needed.

Administrative Assistant

As an Administrative Assistant, Faith Greeted and liaised with all student walk ins, directed them to campus services, and assisted in scheduling appointments with their advisors.

Community Event Outreach Coordinator

EOP- SSS TRIO at SFSU

Faith coordinated outreach efforts to set up workshops and events with on-campus and local community organizations, programs, and speakers. Collaborated with our team to plan, organize, and execute these events. Her and her team ensured that all workshops and speakers were intentionally selected to align with identities and lived experiences of first-generation students of color.

Teaching Apprenticeship with SFSU's Ethnic Studies Department and SFUSD

Faith taught high school Ethnic Studies to 11th and 12th grade students for PEP San Francisco in SFUSD (San Francisco Unified School District). She served under the Ethnic Studies Department at SFSU and the Step to College program which aims to increase the number of first-generation and historically underrepresented students who apply to, attend and graduate from our nation’s colleges and universities.

Alumni Educator

Educator Pathway Program with Peer Resources San Francisco and SFUSD

Faith taught Ethnic Studies curriculum at her high school alma mater for two school years, through the same Social Justice and Educator Pathway that she had gone through as a student. She collaborated with senior educators and participated in various professional development sessions and community-building events for educators in San Francisco. Through a partnership with Peer Resources San Francisco and SFUSD, she taught a class titled "Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice," where she supported students in a Transformative Change project. This project involved Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) to create a youth-driven and youth-led Bilingual Buddy Program at the school site, aimed at helping newcomer and English language learner students feel less isolated and more connected to their peers.

Coleman Advocates For Children and Youth

In this position, Faith attended several community events throughout the year, engaged with families and youth of color, and supported the facilitation of the YMAC (Youth Making a Change) program meetings with the team on a weekly basis.

Her direct work with youth in the community, along with the insights she gained from these engagements, helped inform the development of strategic initiatives within the broader organization. These initiatives relied on direct testimonials from community members and youth to ensure that advocacy efforts addressed their specific needs, reflected their experiences, and amplified their voices.

Youth Empowerment Intern (YMAC)

Coleman Advocates For Children and Youth

As a youth empowerment intern for the YMAC program at Coleman Advocates, Faith worked under the guidance of two mentors who helped deepen her understanding of the organization’s mission, develop her facilitation skills, and engage in community outreach efforts to recruit youth from local schools in the Excelsior District of San Francisco. During her internship, she collaborated closely with her mentors, receiving guidance and support during workshops while also contributing to community relations initiatives.

During her time at university, her research interests focused on analyzing the systemic disparities that exist in society, specifically examining their implications for the American K-12 public schooling system.

Faith was deeply involved in the Social Justice and Educator Pathway at her high school, an experience that helped shape her commitment to equity and social justice. It was through her first Ethnic Studies class and her engagement in the pathway that she discovered her passion for social impact.

Her time at her alma mater was fundamentally transformative, planting many seeds that continue to inspire and ground her to this day.
